I am drawn to people who have a zest for life, who walk down the street or into a room as if they’re seizing the day with both hands.

A couple weeks ago I saw Neil Sedaka in concert. Neil was popular in the 1960s. He’s a songwriter and performer and to tell you the truth I didn’t think he was even alive any more. But he is – boy is he ever.

This small, pudgy, slightly balding 74 year old sat down at the piano and proceeded to have the time of his life – and he brought us along. He sang old favorites (Oh Carol, Breaking Up Is Hard to Do, and Solitaire), visited with the audience between songs and finished his show 90 minutes later leaving us hungry for more.

Sedaka clearly has passion: for music, for performing, for sharing what he loves with an audience.

What’s your passion?

I don’t mean the emotional / infatuation kind. I’m looking for the light-in-your-eyes- great-big-grin-can’t-wait-to-start-talking-about-it kind of passion. It can be a passion for animals, for architecture, for aardvarks or ants; it doesn’t matter. But if you’ve got it you’ll know it, and so will everyone around you.
