Linda here.

It’s one of life’s great ironies: right after Thanksgiving
and its celebration of gratitude and family, we go marathon shopping on Black Friday.

I suggest we sit this one out.  Instead of fleeing our warm homes to join the hordes of shoppers in endless lines, slow down.  Invite a family member or friend to enjoy a beverage with you and share in a reflection exercise.  Here are some suggestions to start with.

List two things in each category you are grateful for:

  • Friends
  • Teachers
  • Holidays
  • Gadgets

Give two examples of:

  • Things I’m good at
  • Things I love to wear
  • Things I take for granted
  • Things that make me laugh

Share one example of:

  • The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given
  • A luxury I love to indulge in
  • A surprising opportunity I’ve had

Grab another beverage and share your lists with each other.  The amazing stories you hear and share will far outlast any Black Friday shopping trip.
